ARCHITECTURAL DETAILING

Architectural details add character and interest to a property and much can be achieved by using British stone to create these finishing touches.

We can create bespoke designs as well as decorative elements in keeping with specific design periods for both interior and exterior projects. From your brief we will put together working designs which bring your vision to life without compromising the original design.

SOLID CANTILEVERED AND CLAD STAIRCASES

Whether solid cantilevered or clad, a stone staircase makes an impressive entrance and architectural statement.

Above all precision is key when creating a stone staircase.  We focus on accuracy of templating and cutting as the foundation from which we carefully shape, check and double check until each tread is finished.  Hours of craftsmanship goes into each staircase, from selecting the correct stone to finishing the last tread.

WALL CLADDING AND PANELLING

Appearances can be deceptive.  Bringing British natural stone into a scheme by using cladding or panelling can create a dramatic statement wall or focal point whilst having the appearance of a solid stone wall.

Thickness of stone can be varied within a scheme to suit the application, such as thicker for walls and thinner clad for an integral door within a wall.

SKIRTINGS, MOULDINGS AND ARCHITRAVES

Finishing touches such as skirting boards, mouldings, architraves and bespoke detailing are at times underutilised when in fact they can often be the features which bring a design together.

Skirtings and mouldings can be created in keeping with a specific period style or to a bespoke design, whether contemporary or traditional.  Please call us to discuss your requirements.

DECORATIVE BRACKETS AND CORBELS

Brackets perform a decorative role as well as being functional.  Carved not cast, shaped brackets can be created to suit a specific period style or to meet a bespoke design brief.

VAULTS

Above or below ground, a vaulted ceiling makes an interesting focal point and takes ceiling architecture to a new level.  Single and double barrel vaults are created as a load bearing thin shell scheme using stone blocks of up to 50mm thick.

Making the shaping of a vault whilst preserving the layout and format of the stone pattern is the biggest challenge.  Once architectural plans are received we create detailed technical drawings and renders which map the layout piece by piece showing the different sizes required to make it work.  Using random lengths and different widths help keep the pattern of joints.

WALL COPINGS

They may have a practical purpose in protecting walls and structures from the elements but they can provide architectural interest too.  We can create any shape or style to suit your project with the same attention to detail afforded to everything we create.

Withstanding the British climate is something that British stone can cope with admirably, just as nature intended.  British stone steps in a landscape project will blend naturally with their environment over time.

SWIMMING POOL SURROUNDS

Swimming pool surrounds in British natural stone provide a luxurious finish.  Creatively using shaped copings which are thicker at the front edge than the flooring oozes quality.  Finishing details such as grills and air vents can be created in complementary stone.
