FAQs

Are all stones available in the same finishes?

Everything we do is made to order and specific to each individual project, which includes how a stone is finished.  Each stone will respond differently to a finishing technique and we use our experience of working with stone to fine-tune the finishing to achieve the desired look.

Do you send out samples?

As with any natural product, the precise patterning and colour tone of some stones may vary, and no two pieces are the same.  To help with material selection, following consultation we can provide large sample panels of grouted tiles which give an overall indication of how the finished product will look.

What are the standard sizes available?

Everything we do is made to order for specific projects and therefore tile sizes are dictated by what is best for the project.  As a guide, interior flooring is typically 20mm thick and exterior paving 30mm+ for solid substrate installation.  Exterior thickness will depend upon whether it needs to take vehicular traffic.  Please call or email us to discuss: ask@artoriusfaber.com +44 (0) 1935 847333.

Are all stones available in large sizes?

Maximum sizing depends on the base material as some blocks are smaller than others which therefore dictates the maximum finished tile size.

Do your products need sealing after installation?

Yes, all natural stone floors should be sealed after installation to protect the stone and make maintenance easier. A natural stone floor will also benefit from re-sealing every 3-5 years as part of a routine maintenance programme.  We recommend engaging a professional stone specialist to do this.

Is a natural stone floor difficult to maintain?

A regular cleaning and maintenance programme will help keep a natural stone floor looking its best. The amount of cleaning required will depend upon the amount of use the floor receives and the area it is in. As a general guide a regular dry brush up as part of your normal cleaning regime followed by wet cleaning will suffice.  However, proprietary household cleaners including washing up liquid, must not be used as they can weaken the surface structure and break down the sealant, leaving the stone susceptible to discolouration, staining and damage. We recommend using a special PH neutral stone floor cleaner such as Artorius Faber Stone Wash.  Any spillages on a natural stone floor should be mopped up immediately.

We offer a Cleaning and Maintenance Service, please call or email for current services and pricing.  ask@artoriusfaber.com +44 (0) 1935 847333.

Can natural stone flooring be used with underfloor heating?

Yes. For best results we recommend using a movement decoupling membrane with water-based underfloor heating systems.

Do you offer an installation service?

Yes we do.  Please contact us to discuss via email ask@artoriusfaber.com or call us on +44 (0) 1935 847333.

What is the lead time from placing an order?

Leadtimes will vary as everything is made to order and therefore leadtimes will depend on the requirements of each project.  We will provide an indication of leadtime once precise details have been confirmed and ordered.
